About
We build the till we’d want behind our own counter
SmartAI POS is a point-of-sale system for independent cafés, restaurants and shops in Australia.
<<DECISION NEEDED — this page needs the founder story, the year founded, and who’s behind it. A software buyer wants to know who they’re trusting with their takings. Everything below is structure and honest engineering detail; the human part is missing and cannot be invented.>>
How does SmartAI POS decide what goes in?
Two rules, and they explain most of the product.
A plan problem must never stop you taking money. Sales, refunds, receipts, the catalogue, the cash drawer and offline selling are on every plan and always will be. SmartAI POS monetises transactions, not the ability to serve a customer — which is why the plan comparison is as short as it is.
If it isn’t demonstrable, it isn’t on this website. No invented percentages, no customer counts we can’t evidence, no testimonials we don’t have. The screens shown elsewhere on this site are labelled as illustrations, and the figures in them are examples. When you see a claim here, we can show it to you in the demo.

What rules is the code held to?
Most POS marketing skips this because it’s unglamorous. It’s also the part that decides whether your Saturday takings reconcile.
- Money is integer centsNever a floating-point number. Rounding errors in a till compound into a drawer that doesn’t balance
- Balances are row-lockedA payment is decided under a lock, not read-then-written. Two staff tapping at once can’t corrupt the total
- Every write is auditedWho changed that price, and when. SmartAI POS can answer it
- Orders are idempotentSafe to retry. A network stutter can’t double-charge a customer
- Offline fails openCached permissions never lock a till out mid-service
- Migrations are append-onlyWe never rewrite a migration that has already run on a merchant’s data
Where it runs
One system, several screens
The till, the kitchen, the customer-facing display, the back office and the staff app are surfaces onto the same data, not separate products stitched together. That’s why there’s no nightly export and no reconciliation step.
It runs on Android tablets as a progressive web app, so there’s no hardware you can only buy from us. The full feature list sets out what each surface does.
- Merchant POSThe till the staff use
- Kitchen displayTickets routed by section
- Customer displayThe order as it’s rung up
- Back officeCatalogue, stock, staff, reports
- Team appClock in from a phone

Which parts are most complete today?
Hospitality is where SmartAI POS is most complete — cafés, restaurants and takeaways. That’s the vertical we’d point you at first, and the hospitality page sets out what’s there.
Retail runs on the same platform, and the catalogue, barcode, stock and variant tooling is all built. But we’re not going to claim a finished retail product while hospitality is the one we can demonstrate end to end.
We’d rather tell you that now than have you find out in month three.
